Having done hand drafting, I have wondered why the shield had this particular pattern of shapes. Some make obvious sense, like the circle, the teardrop, and the various straight line strips of various lengths, but some of the others are rather odd, and I rarely used them. There are many round edges, because a sharp edge would tend to wear down the eraser more, but there are times when a nice square corner really comes in handy. Why so many circles of the same size, when you just need two circles to make an evenly spaced dashed line? A few more circles of different sizes, and a square or rectangle or two, might have been useful additions.

Too many cutouts in the metal would make the shield prone to bending, but it doesn't seem that much thought went into the selection of the pattern of shapes, and surely more shapes could have been added. As a result, for many decades those involved in fields like engineering and architecture, had to make do with a product that very easily could been made more useful. All that lost productivity! Well, it's too late now, as hand drafting has largely become a thing of the past.

I thought it was the string shield that breaks but the problem is that the entire head rotates I think 90degrees ( its suppose to by pushing a button to unlock it then I re-locks in the new position). Update 11/13/2009: Neighbor had a 20-25' juniper leaning over our mutual fence after a storm. Was right over wife's Mantis composer (very expensive) and my wood chipper (moderately so). If the fence had not been there it would has crushed both. As it was, it was in a very precarious position and if the fence collapsed or the root ball came more out of the ground, the same thing would have happened. So, hanging over composter about at the 12' height were the parallel trunks of this tree. Both about 6" thru the middle. I cut about 4 feet off of both almost standing on tip toes. Sliced thru it like butter. Had to duck and cover, but each 2 - 3' section after that came down very easily. After the part hanging over the fence was cut away, we moved to the other side and finished with my 16" Husqvarna.

This thing is NOT a toy. I had no idea when I ordered it I would use it so extensively so soon. But I have no idea how I would have done this without it. Probably would have had to hire someone for large bucks.

I highly recommend this pole chain saw. The whole Poulan package works exceeding well. Period. Price not withstanding, it is a GREAT deal.

We purchased three Earthway 2030PI-plus. for use to salt sidewalks
We assembled them and we put grass seed in one. Started across the lot spreading seed and the spinner quit working. We emptied it and found that the drive axle had a fold in it to make a crude gear. The gear part of the vertical shaft that turns the spinner slide to one side dislodging it from the axle drive shaft.
We slid it back over and put seed in it and off we went. We stopped and turned a round and opened the slide to let seed out and nothing came out. Brand new out of the box and only grass seed not chemicals or salt. The cable pulled out of the slide at the spinner. So we put it back on the truck and used a very old Scotts spreader ($20.00)to finish.
We have not yet spread salt with them....
These changes we have made.
We drilled the axle and placed cotter keys in both sides to prevent the spinner unit from sliding off the gear
We took the cable off the spinner and taped the outer sleave and reclamped the cable to the spinner. I bought the Vector MAXX 400 watt inverter because it was about the highest wattage inverter available that still plugged into the cigarette lighter and I am not displeased. The unit comes with both a cigarette lighter cord and alligator clips which can be attached directly to the battery. These are color coded and connected to the unit by the user. I just leave the cigarette lighter cord attached as it still fits in the convenient hard-shell carrying case in that configuration. The unit has audio alarm for low power, a circuit breaker, and a fan which is not too loud.

I found it easy to use - just hook up the cables, plug it in and run my stuff. I mostly use this to power a laptop running navigation software or recharge a cell phone and it works great. (I probably do not need this much power for these tasks but you never know when you will need the extra juice for other usage.) It powered the laptop on a 12 hour drive from Chicago to D.C. with no problems. I do use a surge suppressor for the laptop but that is just me and to the best of my knowledge, the Vector MAXX has never triggered the surge suppressor.

My only (mild) complaint is that the cords are a little short. Overall, I find it easy to use and pretty handy to have around. I recommend it.

- Glove sizes are accurate, maybe slightly on the tight side
- Good for bad weather down to 20 degrees F or so
- Drawstring around cuff keeps snow out nicely
- Good flexibility and grip
Cons
- Not as warm as I thought they'd be. Extended use in 10 degree F didn't keep fingers warm
- Not waterproof as stated. I'd call them "weather proof" instead. Extended use in cold, slushy snow conditions eventually soaked through to hands. Will keep hands warm and dry for a number of hours though.
- Sides and back of fingers is made of very rough material, not suitable for wiping snow off glasses or scratching your nose. After carefully applying exactly according to directions, I confidently headed off into the woods to weedeat/clear some local mountainbike trails. Soaked everything the day before with this product. 2 days later (that's when chigger infestations show themselves) my neck looks like I'm wearing a red turtleneck! It's awful.
